ABOUT ME

THOSE WHO WERE NOT TOLD ABOUT HIM WILL SEE, AND THOSE WHO HAVE NOT HEARD WILL UNDERSTAND.
– Romans 15:21 (NIV)

My soul has lived and breathed creativity and art ever since I was a child. Even as a young girl I knew I was an artist. I still remember sitting alongside my mom in the Sunday morning church pews creating one tiny rendition after another of houses and people. I craved creating and was very good at my craft. Kindergarten arts and craft time was like a dream come true for me!

Growing up in rural Pennsylvania, I spent my summers taking watercolor classes from a local artist. It was there that my love of painting began.

In college, I was enrolled as a Fine Art Major but garnered more painting experience during the summers working with my dad painting houses and face-painting at an amusement park. Fearing I’d never “make it” as an artist, I switched schools and changed my major to Graphic Design. After graduating, I was able to secure a job that allowed me to learn and grow as a designer.

In 2007, I shifted my design expertise to the mission field, becoming a full-time missionary for Cru as their music ministry’s Graphic Designer. I LOVED my job, but my heart still deeply longed to do art in a more tactile way and I felt God’s gentle but obvious nudge toward painting. Trusting the Lord’s leading, in 2012, I left missionary life to pursue my artist dream full-time. Having NO IDEA what it would look like, I just began painting realistic pictures of things that appealed to me and dilly-dallying with abstract art ideas. But I still wasn’t feeling very fulfilled. I kept pushing to find the kind of art I would want hanging on my walls and figuring out how to paint it. Slowly my style began to take shape.

BEING A KINGDOM CREATIVE

Having a deep desire to see people come to Christ, I knew there just HAD to be some way of using my art to minister to people. As deep calls out to deep, God began slowly unveiling how He planned on accomplishing His purposes through my art–directing me to listen to His Spirit’s leading as I created.

At first, it looked like painting flowers in creative ways to showcase the colors and liveliness of God’s creation. I squeezed in art every moment I could. While being a new mom of twins, I was somehow still able to find time to paint. That’s a miracle in and of itself!

During paint sketches for flowers, I accidentally created what looked like a vortex, darkness going into light. Immediately, the paintings and ideas just starting POURING out of me. From that one little “mistake,” 38 more paintings were inspired to become my “New Life” series. As I created them, God just clearly gave me pictures and colors in my mind and powerful titles that LITERALLY brought people to tears. Healing, redemption and hope began happening before my eyes as people viewed my artwork.

It wasn’t until mid-2020 that I was finally able to slap a label on this kind of intuitive art. A friend called me a “Prophetic Artist” and I heard terms like “Kingdom Creative.” Thankfully, I’ve even found a group of artists like me through Bethel Church.

So…what exactly does it mean to be a Kingdom Creative? It’s trusting God with the ideas He gives me–in dreams, visions or for titles, colors, shapes, brushstrokes–and letting HIM shine through my creativity. It’s co-creating with the Savior of the world in hopes of making God, His Scriptures and His character recognizable and understood to those who need it most.
